There are resorts that simply give you a place to sleep near the beach… and then there are resorts that feel like an entire destination on their own. That is exactly how I would describe my stay at Royalton Bavaro in beautiful Punta Cana.

From the moment I arrived, this resort felt modern, tropical, and full of energy, while still somehow managing to create relaxing corners that felt calm and peaceful. What stood out the most to me was how the resort blends contemporary luxury with lush Caribbean scenery. Palm trees are everywhere, tropical vegetation surrounds the pathways, and the famous lazy river area feels more like an oasis hidden inside a jungle resort than a typical all-inclusive hotel.
If you are looking for a resort in Punta Cana that combines modern design, fun amenities, beautiful pools, and tropical landscaping, Royalton Bavaro definitely deserves attention.
First Impressions: A Modern Caribbean Resort
The first thing I noticed when entering the resort was the modern atmosphere. The lobby is large, bright, stylish, and open, with sleek décor and plenty of comfortable seating areas. Unlike some older Caribbean resorts that feel dated, Royalton Bavaro has a fresh and contemporary vibe throughout the property.

Right outside the lobby is a large circular open-air square that becomes the heart of the resort in the evenings. There is a bar located there, surrounded by seating areas where guests gather nightly for entertainment and shows. Every evening, the area comes alive with music, performances, dancing, and a relaxed social atmosphere. I really liked that the entertainment takes place outdoors because it adds to that tropical vacation feeling — warm air, palm trees, lights glowing around the square, and people enjoying drinks while watching the shows.
It creates a lively atmosphere without feeling overwhelming.
The Resort Layout: Almost Like Two Different Worlds - Royalton Bavaro Punta Cana
One thing I found interesting about Royalton Bavaro is how the property feels divided into two distinct sections.
The first area is near the entrance and lobby. This section includes:
The main lobby
Several bars
Restaurants
The main buffet
Shops and gathering areas
This area feels energetic and modern, with people constantly moving around and socializing.
Then, as you walk farther into the property, you cross through a lush tropical section that almost feels like a transition zone between the busy entrance and the relaxing resort core. This part was honestly one of my favorite hidden details of the hotel.
There are:
Mango trees
Tropical plants
Birds
Small ponds
Shaded pathways
Dense greenery
It almost feels like a reminder of what the landscape may have looked like before the resort was built there. Instead of removing all traces of nature, the resort preserved pockets of tropical vegetation that make the property feel much more organic and immersive.
After crossing this lush area, you reach the hotel buildings, which sit on both sides of the resort. In the middle is the true centerpiece of Royalton Bavaro: the incredible oasis-style pool and lazy river complex.
Modern Suites Designed for Comfort
Royalton Bavaro hotel features 730 modern suites designed with comfort, convenience, and a contemporary Caribbean style in mind. The rooms continue the resort’s modern aesthetic, with clean décor, bright spaces, and relaxing touches that fit perfectly with the tropical atmosphere outside.
All suites include one king-size bed or two queen-size beds with high-thread-count sheets, helping create a very comfortable sleeping experience after long days spent at the beach or pool. The bathrooms feature a rain shower, while many suites also include an in-suite Jacuzzi bathtub for extra relaxation.

Guests also benefit from practical amenities including:
Complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi throughout the resort
USB charging stations
Satellite television with specialty channels
24/7 room service
Electronic in-room safe
A/C thermostat and ceiling fan
Iron and ironing board
Hair dryer and vanity mirror
Coffee maker upon request
Every room also comes with either a balcony or terrace, allowing guests to enjoy views of the tropical gardens, pools, or resort surroundings without leaving their suite.
One detail I appreciated was how easy it was to move around from the rooms to the main resort areas thanks to the shaded pathways connecting many of the buildings. Even during the hotter parts of the day, you could comfortably walk toward the lobby, restaurants, or pools without constantly being exposed to direct sun.
The resort offers several suite categories depending on the type of vacation experience guests want:
Luxury Junior Suite
Luxury Family Suite
Luxury Presidential Suite
Chairman’s Suites
Signature Suites
Families may appreciate the spacious family suites, while travelers looking for a more elevated luxury experience can choose the Presidential, Chairman’s, or Signature Suites for additional space and upgraded amenities.
Royalton Bavaro’s rooms strike a nice balance between modern resort luxury and relaxed Caribbean comfort, matching the overall atmosphere of the property very well.
The Lazy River Oasis

The lazy river at Royalton Bavaro is honestly one of the coolest resort features I have seen in Punta Cana.

This is not just a simple circular lazy river floating around a plain pool deck. The entire area is designed almost like an artificial tropical canyon, complete with rocks, lush landscaping, waterfalls, palm trees, bridges, and hidden corners.
The river winds through the middle of the resort, surrounded by:
Palm trees
Tropical vegetation
Large decorative rocks
Lounge areas
Modern pool furniture
At certain spots, guests can slide down sections of the rocks while floating on tubes, which makes the whole experience more interactive and fun.
One of the most unique parts is the cave bar built directly into the rock formations. Walking into the cave feels surprisingly immersive. The lighting, stone textures, cool shade, and flowing water nearby create a completely different atmosphere from the bright sunny pool areas outside.
It honestly feels like stepping into a hidden tropical grotto.

The cave bar became one of my favorite places to cool down during the day because it combines:
Shade
Drinks
Relaxing atmosphere
Tropical scenery
A unique design concept rarely seen at all-inclusive resorts
The entire oasis section is beautifully landscaped and really gives the resort its personality.
Pools and Relaxation Areas
Royalton Bavaro has multiple pools spread throughout the property, giving guests plenty of options depending on the atmosphere they want.
There are several main pools designed for:
Activities
Swimming
Relaxation
Families
Socializing
The resort also has quieter areas where guests can relax away from louder activities.
One thing I appreciated was the abundance of modern loungers around the pools. The furniture feels updated and stylish, matching the resort’s contemporary aesthetic. There are many shaded areas as well, which is important under the Punta Cana sun.
For guests wanting an upgraded experience, the resort offers private cabana rentals near the pool areas. These cabanas are far more luxurious than standard beach cabanas.
Some come with:
Their own private plunge pool
Lounge seating
Covered relaxation space
A semi-private atmosphere
Honestly, these cabanas almost feel like having your own mini vacation home inside the resort. They create a much more exclusive experience for families or couples wanting extra privacy and comfort.
If you enjoy spending long days by the pool, these cabanas would definitely elevate the experience.
The Beach Area
Like many Punta Cana resorts, Royalton Bavaro sits directly on a beautiful stretch of Bavaro Beach.
The beach features:
Soft sand
Turquoise Caribbean water
Palm trees
Plenty of loungers
One thing I found extremely convenient is the Oceanside buffet restaurant located close to the beach area. This may sound like a small detail, but it actually makes a huge difference during the day.
Instead of needing to walk all the way back toward the lobby area after spending time on the beach, guests can simply stop at the Oceanside buffet for lunch, drinks, or snacks without leaving the oceanfront area.
It makes beach days much more comfortable and seamless.
Restaurants and Dining Experience
Royalton Bavaro has around 10 restaurants and food venues offering a wide variety of cuisine styles.
The resort includes:
International buffet
Italian restaurant
Japanese hibachi restaurant
Steakhouse
Mexican restaurant
Sports bar
Mediterranean-inspired dining
Café and snack options
Beachside buffet
Grill-style dining
The restaurants continue the resort’s modern design theme, with contemporary décor, stylish lighting, and upscale presentation.
I especially liked how different many of the dining spaces felt from each other. Some had elegant indoor atmospheres while others embraced open-air tropical dining.
The buffet area is large and modern as well, with many food stations and a bright, clean layout.
As with most all-inclusive resorts, some restaurants stood out more than others, but overall the dining variety was very good and there were plenty of options throughout the stay.
Comfortable Resort Design
One design feature I really appreciated was how easy it is to move around the resort without constantly being exposed to direct sun and heat.
Many of the pathways connecting buildings and common areas are shaded or covered. This may seem minor, but in Punta Cana’s tropical climate, it makes a huge difference.
When leaving your room, you can often walk directly through shaded corridors and pathways leading toward the main buildings and restaurants without needing to spend long periods walking under intense sun.
This makes the resort feel more comfortable and thoughtfully designed.
The Overall Atmosphere
What makes Royalton Bavaro stand out most is the combination of:
Modern luxury
Tropical landscaping
Fun water features
Relaxed Caribbean atmosphere
Some resorts focus heavily on luxury but feel sterile. Others feel tropical but outdated.
Royalton Bavaro manages to combine both worlds quite successfully.
The lush vegetation softens the modern architecture, while the pools and lazy river create a fun and visually impressive centerpiece.
At times, the resort genuinely feels like a tropical oasis built inside a botanical garden.
A Few Cons to Consider
While I really enjoyed my stay, no resort is perfect, and there are a few things worth mentioning.
The Property Is Very Large
The size of the resort can be both a positive and a negative.
While the large layout allows for beautiful landscaping and spacious amenities, it also means that walking distances can sometimes feel long, especially in the heat.
Depending on your room location, getting from one area to another may take time.
Some Areas Can Get Busy
Because Royalton Bavaro is a popular family-friendly resort, certain pools and common areas can become crowded during peak hours.
The lazy river area especially attracts many guests throughout the day.
If you prefer extremely quiet resorts, this may not always provide that atmosphere.
Restaurant Reservations
Some specialty restaurants can become difficult to book during busy periods, especially at popular dinner times.
Planning ahead helps.
Beach Conditions Depend on Weather
Like many Punta Cana resorts, beach conditions can vary depending on weather and seaweed conditions during different seasons.
During my stay, the beach was beautiful overall, but this is something travelers should always keep in mind when visiting the Caribbean.
Final Thoughts
Overall, my stay at Royalton Bavaro Resort & Spa was a very enjoyable experience.
The resort succeeds at creating an atmosphere that feels:
Tropical
Modern
Fun
Relaxing
Visually impressive
The lazy river oasis with its cave bar, rock formations, palm trees, and lush landscaping truly gives the property a unique identity that stands out among many Punta Cana resorts.
I also appreciated the thoughtful layout, shaded walkways, variety of dining options, modern design, and beautiful pool areas.
If you are traveling as a couple, with friends, or with family, Royalton Bavaro offers a mix of relaxation and entertainment that appeals to many types of travelers.
And honestly, floating through that tropical lazy river surrounded by palm trees and lush greenery while music plays softly in the background is one of those vacation moments that stays with you long after the trip ends.
